Basil is a grey tabby short haired Manx girl and she is looking for love! She was pulled from one of our local shelters since she needed a little extra special care being a Manx to ensure she stays healthy. An interested adopter should read up on the Manx breed and their possible medical needs (Manx Syndrome) to be prepared for her possible future needs. We can tell you at this time she is pottying (both peeing & pooping) normally in her litter box and we are currently working with our vet team to learn more about her specific anatomy & needs. UPDATE: BASIL CURRENTLY HAS A NORMAL BUM! In both appearance and more importantly function, Basil's anus is 100% normal!!!!! While we can't predict the future, with a vigilant and proactive adopter, PPAR and our vet team believe Basil will be able to live her life as a normal cat without any special treatment long term! **********************************Previous updates:**************************** Currently her anus is ever so slightly protruded. Our vet team has done a few exams and xrays and has decided no special medical treatment is needed at this time other than to help her keep her bum clean and monitor it. We will gladly show an interested adopter everything we know about her. Here's her current care routine according to her foster: "At least twice a day, I gently clean her rump with a soaked, soft, folded paper towel or washcloth. If everything seems a little crusty, I hold her rump under the faucet with a gentle flow of water at a mild warm temperature. You don't want too hot or too cold considering the exposure of the soft tissue. Once everything is soft enough, I wipe everything clean. I keep the fur around her hind end clipped so it doesn't tug on dried areas. I keep her bedding clean with fresh sheets and pillowcases on her beds. She eats a mixture of wet and dry food. I keep the anus lubricated with water based lubricant to keep it moist and prevent dry and crusty areas. And...lots and lots of love!" ******************************************************************************* She would do well with another cat-friendly cat, and would also learn to do great with dogs as well since she's so young! She currently lives in foster care with a large dog and several cats without issue. Basil is spayed, is up to date on vaccines for her age, microchipped, and dewormed.
