Who remembers this sweet girl from a little over a month ago? She was picked up as a stray with a gnarly gunshot wound to her hind leg. A Good Samaritan offered to pay for her amputation surgery and vet care if a rescue could step in to take her. MAD was notified, the surgery completed, and she has been with her foster for about a month. We are happy to be able to share more about this warrior girl! Let’s start with the basics. Dahlia is estimated to be around 2 years old and is a Dutch/German Shepherd mix. She is recently spayed, current on her vaccines, and has healed nicely from her amputation. This girl moves like she’s got all 4 legs! She’s an amazing adventurer, loves to go for car rides, runs, and is confident in new environments. She has a fantastic ball drive, loves food, and attention, in order of importance to her. She’s gentle with food and toys, learned basic obedience, and how to be introduced to new people. Dahlia is a very driven girl who would love someone who can continue to challenge her, both mentally and physically. She is a great follower once rule and expectations are established, so she needs someone who is a natural leader. Like every unique dog, she has a couple of her own quirks that she’s still working on. Men and children will need slow introductions. She has barrier aggression and will need continued work on this, and will bark to get attention. Dahlia is destructive if left alone, but does well in a kennel. She’s done well with other dogs that are not ball driven. She has quickly learned what is allowed and not when it comes to other animals like chickens, ducks, goats, and cats. Dahlia has done well in all situations, once she knows the expected behavior. However, she is not the type of dog that will do well in a home with owners that think she needs to play with or interact with every dog and person she sees.
