NINA Female Approximate age: 2.5 years as of September 2023 Best guess for breed: Shepherd mix 50 pounds If Nina were to take a dog DNA test, she'd likely be some of this breed and some of that one. And maybe a little of those other breeds too. But if there were a breed personality test? She would be 100% shepherd. Nina embodies the best traits of shepherds. She has a big brain! The shepherd love for mental enrichment is so abundant in her. She has excellent recall (she comes when her name is called from across an one-acre property, or when "cookie" is called!) and responds well to training using food and treats. She has mastered Sit, Touch, Paw, Down, and Focus, and is currently working on Spin, Up, and Place. She is capable of so much more, and would be an amazing training companion for an adopter who loves seeing what more their dogs can learn. She is intensely loyal and loving. That is her fosters' favorite thing about her. She forms deep attachments to her people. Belly rubs, cuddles, and full face kisses are her favorite things, and once she has decided that you are her person, she never wants the love to stop. She takes great pride in looking after her people, and is quick to show you her affection, love and loyalty. And that combination of brains and loyalty makes her exceptionally communicative, Best Friend material, and a truly special companion personality-wise. She's like the best friend who tells you straight out that those pants make your butt look big, but if someone else says something critical about you? Nope. Not allowed. She's got your back. Always. She's the type of dog that people reminisce about years after their passing - "That dog could be a pain in the butt - but she truly was my heart. I'll never have another like her." She has also been a mama dog and you can't take that out of her - she is nurturing towards puppies and small dogs. And you know, the second part of "shepherd" is "herd" and she's a working breed.
