Adopt Sylvie a White Shepherd (Unknown Type) / Husky / Mixed dog in Aurora

Location:
Aurora, IL
Description:

Sylvie is a 1 yr old shepherd mix. She is house and crate trained. She is good with other energetic dogs and dog savvy cats and children. Sylvie is a herding dog who is protective, loving, sweet, energetic and mischievous. She has been returned twice for not being correct for the adopted household. For Sylvie to thrive she will need another k-9 energetic companion, a permanent human male, the more children the better, just older if possible, a yard, constant correction with training and a bunch of love! She deserves to finally find her forever home. Sylvie has personality for miles and has a ton of energy and I mean a TON. I have never fostered a dog before who just keeps going and going if you let her. Time out works and is needed. When she is still ready to party and the others are over it, we simply take her current favorite toy and crate her for a bit. For us she is calm and will chill even if I'm doing housework causing noise and moving around. If you are trying to relax, she will bring you every toy to get you to play. She will also surprise you when she gets going inside by running up the wall doing something that you would see at a skate park like a half pipe. ALSO this girl can jump! This is a major issue that needs a lot of training. As she is settling in her new foster home the jumping and excitement towards the humans that live there has calmed down quite a bit. If a guest visited, I believe she would just be so excited to meet them and that she wants to welcome them by giving them a big fat kiss on the cheek. No matter how tall they were. Another training major is her mouthing, never an actual bite. It seems more she wants her teeth touched. Due to that I feel any children in the home should be of an older age. I actually have a 4 yr old who has been with foster dogs since birth who Sylvie just loves. The behavior of Sylvie, meaning the jumping, mouthing or snatching her lovey, doesn't change. However, I will say if Sylvie isn't too riled up she seems to be more gentile towards our daughter. Sylvie is also a red-handed thief! Watch out for your favorite things, because when you turn your back she will quietly steal and race away with it. That brings me to her next major training need- playing keep-a-way! Super fun game when you're playing that game, but when you're trying to retrieve a stolen item she will automatically engage in keep-a-way. This is also problematic when trying to clean her off from a muddy walk. Not only does she not like her paws cleaned but when you try to wrangle her back in to finish cleaning it is now a game of keep-a-way! This is especially hard if the person is female! She is a Daddys girl or maybe just prefers the security of having men around. Don't get me wrong she loves her female humans, but there is a definitive personality shift when a man is around. I feel that another young dog and a fenced in yard would be an excellent fit. She still hates being outside without a human present, she will run and play with a friend but needs to see you or she will just want to go back inside. She is learning to walk on a leash, the issue is not her walking but her surroundings. She will lunge at, bark at, try to get to another dog, bird, rabbit, squirrel that is walking on the same path. She is not a large dog, but she can pull enough where the leash has been pulled out of the walker's hands. This means she will go after what she wanted and when you try to retrieve her now a game of keep-a-way will begin. Sylvie does not like her collar grabbed at. Again I have said she has not bitten but in a stressful situation she may if her collar is grabbed. When she arrived to her foster home, it was unbelievable how much she did not shed! I was honestly amazed! Fast forward to late March early April and the season changing. Now I have a hard time saying she never sheds, because now it's time for that undercoat to go! She has been bathed and brushed/raked multiple times a day and it's like it has never been done before. Sylvie also loves food with the craziest rejection for peanut butter! What dog doesn't like peanut butter! Other than that there so far isn't a food she hasn't liked. She is very, very food motivated so using kibble or treats to train would work well. She is not allowed in the kitchen. The lanky gal can stand up and eat whatever is on the counter. In our house she is crated during human feeding time. If it was just the adults it may not be needed, but a 4 yr old can get distracted and Sylvie has stolen the food. Sylvie also eats her food in her crate. One of my resident dogs does as well. My oldest resident dog doesn't eat as quickly as the younger ones do so to insure everyone gets their own she is separated. After she eats Sylvie then just chills and waits so patiently for everyone to be done. Sylvie does really good in a crate. She does well in the crate at night but gets FOMO if the cat walks by and will bark. We just say it's OK and acknowledge she's there and back to sleep she goes. I would never leave her alone without being crated. Even though her separation anxiety isn't a level 10 she is definitely on the spectrum. Each household will be different so there is no way to determine. She is a sweet and beautiful girl. She loves to cuddle and be a part of the family. Her beauty is mesmerizing.
