MEET BLACKIE! This engaging 8 year old mixed breed is as sweet as he is handsome. He came in when his elderly person passed away leaving him alone with three other dogs we believe are his children. Blackie has an adventuresome spirit and looks to engage one of his children with a play bow or a happy 'woof!' Blackie could be part lab, but at 49 lbs, he's mixed with something much smaller. Blackie is crate trained and house broken and does well in the car. He is now comfortable wearing a collar and is getting used to leash walks. He is a little resistant to having his handler attach the leash to the collar, but when he sees tummy yummies, he becomes quite brave. His ideal home would be a retirement setting where he has a slightly sedentary family who will go out in their fenced in yard with him and let him smell all the things. Blackie knows no commands, but he will come to his name. He is treat motivated and will gently extract one from his handler's pocket when she is pretending to not pay attention. Blackie was successfully treated for Lyme disease. His future lab work will most likely continue to say he's positive, but he may not need antibiotics. Blackie's adoption donation fee is $200, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip.
