King is a sensitive boy who came to the shelter when his person’s living situation was changing. King lived in that home his entire life and was reportedly friendly with other dogs, has done fine around kiddos of all ages (keeping his distance), and was housebroken. His person described him as a curious cuddle bug who loves to wrestle, play tug o’ war, and has lots of energy.King is overwhelmed in the shelter environment, but we’re working hard to help him settle in. Here’s what one volunteer said about him:“First time walking King. He was up at the gate when I approached. Once leashed, he was eager to exit. He was nervous as we passed the other kennels. He continued to pull as we started our walk, but was soon eagerly exploring all the interesting scents and seemed to be comfortable with my company (tail up and wagging). We continued down into the wash, where he was quite intrigued by the roadrunners and rabbits (watching intently, but no pulling or chasing). He seemed to gain confidence as we went along and solicited treats at several stops (gentle mouth). Soon he was tolerating, then enjoying some gentle touch. He was somewhat apprehensive when we encountered other dogs on our return, but he just stayed at my side and was calmed with a few gentle words. Return and entry into his own kennel was easy. By this point he was quite comfortable with touch, so unleashing was effortless. His great behavior was rewarded with treats and affection. King is an adventurous dog who sometimes needs a little reassurance, but he will quickly gain confidence in the care of some lucky adopter. A fine dog.”King was a bit nervous when meeting other dogs in playgroup but became more social over time. If you can help King settle back into a home environment, please ask to meet him today!
