Adopt Ethel a Domestic Shorthair cat in Burlington, VT (38242569)

Location:
Burlington, VT
Description:

Our Ethel kitty has been in foster care for quite some time learning to trust humans. She was originally brought to Vermont by a horse farm owner who was seeking barn cats. When she discovered that Ethel was pregnant, she let her birth and wean her babies safely inside the barn. While there, she started to show signs of being friendly so they contacted QCC to rescue her and give her a chance of becoming a pet. While she's still shy and anxious in strange environments and with unfamiliar humans, she does warm up when you give her the respect and patience she demands. Ethel would do best in a quiet household and with someone who has the time to work on making a connection with her. She loves to play and she really looks forward to Churu treats- these things have helped to build a trusting relationship with her foster mom. Letting her make the first moves will help her blossom. She's extremely observant and very conscious of her surroundings. She would probably appreciate lots of vertical space in her new home, as this will increase her confidence in the space as she checks things out from above. She can be skittish with sudden movements or if approaching her too quickly. Ethel is very smart and good at communicating with you if you pay attention. Her slow blinks, soft eyes, and relaxed posture express her interest in you. Because of the gentle interactions and persistent efforts by her foster mom, Ethel now greets her by running over to her, doing figure eights around her legs and sweetly meowing for attention. She no doubt will be a loyal and loving companion once she is relaxed and at ease. She has a goofy side and loves to race around acting silly. She loves her crunchies and will try to con you out of more dry food. She's great at doing food puzzles and she really looks forward to that part of her day. She likes a challenge and she would probably pick up on clicker training very easily if given the chance. Within just a few days, her foster mom was able to teach her "baseball"-- pitching a soft ball to her; she bats it back or catches it. She also seems to enjoy hearing you chat with her and praising her. Ethel is a gentle kitty who does well with other nice cats and she might enjoy a feline friend in her forever home. Ethel is spayed, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, has been dewormed and is FIV/FeLV negative.
