Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at .carolinapoodlerescue and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applicationscarolinapoodlerescue with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Clifford's daughter Date into Rescue: 2/5/2024 Reason for being in rescue: breeder release due to vulva hypoplasia Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Penny had surgery 02/13/24 to reconstruct her vulva. She was born with what is called vulva hypoplasia - Hypoplasia is the incomplete development or underdevelopment of an organ or tissue. Her body did not make enough tissue to completely cover her lady parts. Fortunately, our great vets could fix that. There is a possibility that Penny will need a follow up surgery in a few years. We won't know until she grows but her new doctor needs to be aware of this so she can monitor Penny. Penny was also born with a naturally short tail. Penny is the daughter of Clifford the Irish setter (also on our page). Penny is up to date on vaccinations routine for her age. She is not old enough yet to start on heartworm prevention or have a rabies vaccine. That will be her new family's responsibility Weight: 20 lbs and growing every day - we estimate at full growth that Penny will be as much as 55 lbs. Height: 16 in now and growing every day - we estimate at full growth Penny will be at least 24" at the shoulder and possibly taller Spayed/Neutered: No - Penny needs to grow and mature to full adult size before she is spayed . She will be placed on a spay/neuter contract. The adopter will be financially responsible for Penny's surgery when she is old enough Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Penny's best home will be one with a physically fenced yard 4' or higher. Penny loves her people but she craves free exercise. She wants you to be outside with her romping and playing. She will love you but she also really loves her off leash time. What kind of home would be best for me? Penny looks more Irish setter than poodle with her stunning bright red coat and her wavy and soft hair. As with most puppies, she needs someone home with her at least half the day. She loves other dogs and loves to play and would do best with a mentor dog in her home. However, if you don't have another dog, do you have a plan for socialization a minimum of 4 days per week for at least an hour with dogs her size and energy level. If so, let us know. Penny has never met a stranger. While she's not been socialized with children, if the kids are the type that can learn to love her spunky and wide open personality, we think she would love them right back. We do think that she needs active with lots of hikes and lots of interaction time with her people. We can see her bouncing around a campground and definitely being involved in a great basic obedience course to teach her how to be that all important Good Dog. Doodle puppies are always in need of a canine friend, they love to run and play with one another. Doodle puppies are active, agile little babies, they need homes that are ready to tire them out both mentally and physically, so a fenced in yard will be required. What matters most to a doodle puppy is a happy and excited owner ready to take on loving and training their new puppy! When raised around cats, with proper boundaries, puppies do very well, it is important to note that poodles can have a high prey drive. If you expect your puppy to get alone with your feline buddy, it’s important to start socializing the puppy with the cat as soon as you can! What is my personality like? Penny is not just a couch potato or a yard ornament. She loves everything and everyone and needs that loving personality shaped and molded. Penny loves people. She has all the personality to make a great and drop dead gorgeous therapy dog one day. Penny is crate trained and working hard on her house manners. She has not yet been introduced to a leash much but she is smart as a whip and will pick it up fast. What Penny wants more than anything else is a person to call her own. A best friend, hiking buddy, let's go to class together human. PUPPY POLICY: Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog. Our ideal puppy adopters are: -experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets -scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day and have another canine companion already in the home -stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) How do I act when I first meet new people? People are cool...you will be Penny's BFF in the first 5 minutes. Other tips and tidbits: Penny's birthdate is 11/28/2023. Clifford the Irish setter (who is listed on our website) is her father. Her mother is a red standard poodle. Penny's breeder has some very serious health challenges and is getting out of large dogs. Penny has not yet been tested with cats . House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at .carolinapoodlerescue and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.
