Meet Loki! This handsome Husky pup is only 8.5 months old but has had an eventful short life. He was purchased from a breeder as a puppy by an owner who cared about him, but was not stable or ready for dog ownership. Loki’s owner lost his job and home and had no place for Loki to go, so he left him tied out at his stepfather’s house. The stepdad, wanting to give Loki more space, decided to put him in a 100 sq foot pen with his own dog, and the dog was not receptive and nipped Loki. Fortunately, the stepdad was there to intervene and Loki was re-tied outside the pen at a safe distance. We are pretty certain there was no proper introduction done between the two dogs who were strangers, and the other poor dog is living in a pen, so we can assume he's not well socialized and was protecting his space. It was a poor decision by the human. Thankfully, a local animal advocate became aware of Loki’s situation and was able to convince his owner to surrender him to rescue so he could get the medical care he needs and the life he deserves. Loki went to the vet the very next day and we are happy to report that his wounds are superficial — no stitches required. He was proactively started on antibiotics to avoid infection and, more importantly, got the vital vaccines and vet care he needs to be a healthy pup. This handsome Husky boy went from losing his home and living tied outside to a pen, to living in a safe, loving foster home with a mom, dad, and two other pups he now considers his friends. Loki is doing well as part of a pack, and enjoys romping and playing in the yard with his new buddies. His foster parents did a gradual introduction over the first few days to make sure he had time to decompress before allowing eveyone full access, but he's done great. Loki is crate trained, housetrained and has not had a single accident in his foster home. He’s quiet in his crate until he sees his foster mom come home and then he cries with excitement, but will sit politely and wait to be let out. Good boy Loki! He travels well and is good in the car, and will make an excellent road trip companion. His foster mom, Hannah, shared , “ He’s a fairly easy foster and doesn’t really seem bothered by anything. He’s just a big playful and goofy guy! He loves people and wants attention from everyone! He runs around the yard and loves for you to throw toys for him! He doesn’t always bring them back, but he loves to chase them. He’s an active, playful pup, but once he gets his energy out he’s usually pretty chill. He’s a happy dog and is always smiling” We are looking for an active, Husky-loving family for Loki, and he'd love to have a dog buddy in his new home.
