Nope I don't talk... but I am pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I am a Leopard Gecko... believe it or not I have been a species of gecko that has been domestically bred in the US for 30 years. I am one of the most commonly kept lizards today. They say that I can live for 10 years - but most males can live up to 20 years... I heard a lady at the shelter has one that is 27 years old - phew... I do like the older sophisticated ladies. The size habitat that I live in is totally up to you - 20 gallon or 30 gallon tank would be best for me... and just think of the fun you will have decorating it. But please make sure my tank is tall and has a top (if you choose to feed me live crickets - they can jump out if you don't). I am going to need a hide box - much like you see with me now - I do enjoy to be spritzed with water every now and then - that is going to help me shed. I prefer to have a nice warm light on during the day - and at night you can turn that light off. Remember I am pretty much nocturnal - when the room goes dark you will see me hunting. Please make sure I have water at all times... and I prefer calcium based sand substrate (for my flooring) - that way if I get a little in my system it will pass thru my body and won't plug me up! Please don't ever grab me by my tail - I will drop it (it will come off)... I will regenerate a new tail in about 40 days... but it's not much fun for me. I store all my extra fat and nutrients in my tail... and losing it will stress me out. So please allow me to get acclimated in my new home for a bit - call my name so I get used to your voice - then eventually you can hold me and give me floor time. You can even play the hand to hand game for me for up to 15 minutes so I get used to you (the hand to hand game is where I sit in one hand and then as you raise your other hand I go into that hand and so on). All in all I am a spectacular little friend who asks for very little out of life and in turn I will give you so much amusement and love. Remember they call me the smiling gecko... oh the joy you and I will have and the adventures!Adoption processVisit the shelter. We have an application that takes about 15 minutes to fill out once you have found a pet you like. You call back the next day which gives us time to review the application and gives you 24 hours to think about your decision to adopt. You can also complete our on-line application and get approved in advance of finding the perfect companion.
