Hi, I’m Petal. I was given my name because I am as lovely as a flower. Well, that’s what I’ve been told by those I meet! I’m a mama dog, previously living in Mississippi. After being a stray for so long there, I’m very grateful to be in foster care. And to be transferred this autumn to beautiful Minnesota. My best traits are that I am calm and sweet. I’m a gentle lady with lots of love to give. Friendly is my middle name. I’m open and curious with everyone I meet. It’s been easy to become good friends with my foster mom in such a short time due to my friendliness. She says my tail is always wagging. When I greet you, I do the best wiggle dance ever! If you scratch my back and rub my belly, I will reward you with snuggles and kisses. It’s easy to appreciate the toy and bones I’m given after being alone for so long. I love to play with my toys and chew on bones. During my foster care, I have been respectful to the resident dog, who is older and smaller than me. I make sure to give him his space. There are also two cats in my foster home. They are curious to me, yet I’m sure to listen when they say “No”! I slept in my crate the first few nights I was here. However, because I’m a really, good girl, I would happily sleep on the floor near you, or even on your bed. Eventually, you may notice I’m blind in one eye. This doesn’t stop me from seeing the beauty in the world and enjoying a nature walk. When I’m outside exploring, of course, I use my nose a lot! I’m still getting used to all the smells, sights, and sounds here so I can get distracted by squirrels and cars, but I’m becoming a better leash walker every day. I don’t know any commands yet; however, I do listen to “No”. And I’m eager to learn. My foster mom says we’ll be working on those more.I am excited to find my forever home. If you are looking for a loving sweetheart of a pup and a deeply grateful, easy-to-please loyal companion, I’m your girl! Petal is Heartworm positive and is waiting for a negative test result which can take 2-9 months after treatment. Her treatment has been completed and she will need a Heartworm test every 2 months to follow up on her treatment progress until she has a negative result. During these months, you will need to make sure her heart rate is not elevated due to high energy play or exercise. Petal will also need continued use of monthly Heartworm prevention going forward. These medical needs will be the responsibility of the adopter. --------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned.
