My name is Lady Liberty (aka Lady). I’m 2 years old and 24 pounds. I haven’t had DNA testing, but my foster mom says I look just like a Beaglier (beagle/cavalier mix). What does this mean? It means I’m the cutest dog ever, with the softest fur you can imagine! Just look at my pictures.I need to let you know I had a hard life before I was rescued. My foster mom doesn’t know what all I went through prior to getting picked up by animal control but she knows it must have been rough because it took me several weeks to get comfortable with my foster family. I’m still scared of strangers, but I’m a big attention hog when it comes to my foster family. I’m still very scared of children and bark at them, so I would do best in an adult-only home.I am great with other dogs and could really benefit from having another dog in the home with me. I am just starting to come out of my shell and I need an experienced dog to show me the ropes. For example, when my foster mom tries to walk me by myself, I crouch in fear, pull back on the leash, and refuse to move. But when my foster mom walks me with the other dogs, I trot along happily behind the others, tail wagging, and sniffing anything the other dogs find interesting. I’m also extremely playful with other dogs and need that other dog to help me use up my energy. I’m submissive towards other dogs so it’s ok if the other dog wants to be the boss.My foster home has a fenced-in yard and I love to go outside and play chase with the other dogs. Once I get past my fear, you’ll see I have a lot of playfulness and puppy behaviors. I love to play keep-away with my foster mom’s socks. I love toys too, but I need to have durable ones because I’m known for tearing plushies to bits and eating the pieces.I am scared to get in the car but once I’m inside I ride very well – calmly and quietly, not scared as long as I can see my human. At night I will sleep either downstairs on the couch or on the dog bed next to the humans’ bed. Sometimes I take naps in my crate, which has become my safe space.I’m housetrained and will go to the door when I want out. I’m very vocal. I bark at my foster mom to tell her when it’s time to feed me (which I think should be really often), time for a treat (also often), time to go out, time to come back inside, etc.I am adorable and sweet and even though I’m still very timid, I’ve made tremendous strides since I was rescued. I’m in search of a loving home where I can feel safe and loved and continue to get braver.
