Mary, and her "look alike sister Cheyenne, were brought to Asheville Humane because their owner died and there was no one else to care for them. So you can imagine how their world has been turned upside down. Mary came to my house to recuperate from a mild "kitty cold and to await her dental cleaning. I found Mary to be an extremely friendly, people-oriented cat. When I went to pet her, she would arch her back and literally jump a few inches off the floor to push her arched back into my hand. She adores petting, gentle scratching, and rubbing on her face, spine, and almost anywhere. She purrs and soaks up the attention like a sponge. She will let you pick her up, but usually prefers to be petted when she has her feet on the ground ... so she can arch her back up the way she likes to do! Mary obviously can get along with other cats because she lived with her sister Cheyenne. At my house, she tolerated my other foster cats but did not interact with them. If they got too close to her, she just hissed at them and then ignored them. Our medical staff examined Mary and found that she needed some dental work. So she has had her teeth cleaned and several teeth pulled. She recovered nicely from her "kitty cold and her dental surgery. Our vet said she is in very good health for her age. Although she is a large cat, she has maintained a svelte figure, weighing only 11 pounds. Senior cats have a lot of love left to give. Please consider adopting friendly Miss Mary. And if you can make room for two, I'm sure Mary and Cheyenne would love to be reunited and live out their lives together again. (Sharon, foster mom)
