Adopt Gibbs a Black American Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed dog

Hi! My name is Gibbs. I am a male Lab mix, about 3 and a half years old and 70 pounds. I was at the shelter before being picked up by my foster mom. The shelter said that I arrived there as a very fearful dog. I was found locked in a garage with 3 other dogs. The neighbors said they had heard us before but never saw us outside. The garage I was found in was filled with feces, debris, terrible smells and no food or water for about a week. I went to a foster family for about a month, but she travelled for work, so she had to bring me back to the shelter. Now I am with a new foster family and am doing so well! Here’s what my foster mom has to say about me: Gibbs is an incredibly smart boy. It is evident he has had some training as he can sit, lay down, shake and occasionally ‘stay’ and ‘come.’ He also knows the word “potty” means he is about to go outside and starts to make his way excitedly to the door. He is housebroken, however likely due to his separation difficulties, he did have some accidents in the home when left alone for even a short time. But, we’re working on building trust and over time this will get better! He loves to play, fetch, chew his bones and is a very smart boy. He does not like to be contained, but we found a crate that works for him and he is doing very well with crate training. He attends dog day care and does well with other dogs. Gibbs has done well with younger children but has not been around toddlers. He can play a little rough and forget he is a strong boy. He is obsessed with water which helps when getting a bath. He is fearful of some men and may bark at them, he just takes a little extra time to get comfortable with them.
