Deacon is ready to find his forever home! He is being fostered in Hixson, TN. Deacon is the sweetest red double merle boy you will ever meet! Being a double merle, he is somewhat deaf and vision impaired, however, this does not affect his quality of life at all. He even knows a few hand signals like to sit, and shake. Most of the time, you would not even know he is 'different'! He is very curious about new things, but learns his surroundings and new routines very quickly. He runs and plays at dog parks and doggie daycare like a normal dog, and gets around the house just fine. He is very smart, and since you cannot always ask him if he needs to potty or needs food, he is FANTASTIC at communicating when and what he needs. During walks, he pulls a little at the beginning, but is overall great on a leash. He does have to wear goggles outside when sunny due to a starburst pupil not being able to adjust to light. Having a zest for the finer things in life, his goggles are VERY ski resort chic! Though, you can expect him to walk into the wall on purpose to try and bump them off. He is also a great passenger in the car. He is eager to go on car rides, and loves to just ride around. Based on his drive-thru etiquette, we can tell he knows his way around a pup-cup! Deacon is a classic velcro Aussie who wants to follow you around the house. He will take any opportunity to sit in a sunny spot near you, protect you, or get his favorite thing in the world, butt pats! He is such an affectionate sweetie pie and loves to give kisses. Being vision and hearing impaired, he is most at peace when he knows where you are, and knows that he is safe. He is crate trained and will happily curl up to sleep there at night, though we think he prefers it to be very or completely dark for his slumber. He also currently eats in his crate, due to his urge to eat all of his foster brother's food. One thing about Deacon, he will NEVER pass up a meal. He is currently 'chonky' status and is working on his diet and exercise at his foster home to get to a healthier weight. While he loves being a couch potato equally as much as he loves exploring his neighborhood on his walks, he may need to be walked regularly for a while to help get to a healthy weight again. We can already tell this is helping him be more confident getting around, jumping on the couch, and going up/down stairs! Overall, Deacon will be great in any home where he receives as much love and attention he can get. He is great with men, women, and older kids. It is best that he goes to a loving home with no other dogs or cats, as he is very competitive for attention. He is currently at a foster home with another dog, and would GREATLY prefer he be the main character. He would also love a home where he can sit and enjoy the fresh air on a porch. He loves to sun bathe in the shadows of trees! A fenced-in backyard is preferred (as he cannot always be recalled) but is not necessary as long as he can still go on walks and get exercise. Deacon is neutered, current on all vaccinations, on heartworm prevention and microchipped.
