It seems like a good time for an update. I’ve had some new adventures and my foster mom continues to learn more about me. one thing I’ve made very clear is I’m not a fan of the cold. I get cold really easily and shiver; especially in the mornings. When it gets nicer out in the afternoon I’m happy to go out and smell all the new smells. I found a new smell the other day. In the woods beside my foster mom’s house there was a deer bed. I didn’t know what it was until she told me, but I smelled every inch of that ground and took a really long time exploring that bed. That was very interesting to me. I’ve already mentioned I like to ride in the car. Now I have discovered some drive throughs will give me treats. When we go to the money store, foster mom calls it a bank, I get a treat at the window every time. I either stand on my foster mom’s lap or go in the back seat and put my head out the window as far as I can so the person in the window sees me and I get the treat. I wish we went there everyday. Some food drive throughs give me ice cream too. I love ice cream, a lot! I also found a favorite toy to play with in the house. It squeaks and it fits in my mouth really well so I play with it a lot. My foster mom has been wrapping presents and gives me the empty cardboard rolls from the paper, I shred those for her. I leave pieces of cardboard all over the floor. After she picks them up she runs the machine that pulls her around the floor. She calls it a vacuum. That’s pretty interesting too. I like to watch it but I don’t get too close, it’s a little scary. I’m learning about tummy rubs. I rolled on my back one time so my foster mom could rub my tummy and she thought that was great. I think she gets excited over some pretty small stuff, but that’s ok, I liked the tummy rub. I created a little trouble in my foster mom’s neighborhood a few weeks ago too. I do not like the neighbor man across the street. I don’t like him. My foster mom is trying to understand why I don’t like him and she hasn’t figured it out yet. I ran over to his house and barked at him. He did not like that and I scared him. My foster mom had to come and get me and take me home. Guess what she said, “that is bad manners”. She wasn’t impressed, she told me. My foster mom is hoping that I can get to be friends with him because he seems like a nice person. I’m undecided on that. I really enjoy my foster mom’s kids. They are all teenagers and I have a great time with them. I wag my tail really hard and loud when I see them. I want to make sure I get attention. I whine in the morning when they get out of the car to go to school. I want to go with them and it’s pretty boring with just my foster mom all day. I love to take naps. My foster mom says I snore and it’s cute. She really is embarrassing sometimes. Well I better go. I’m sure there is something I need to explore. I hope you all have a happy holidays, pet your boxer friends and family, and be safe. 11.16.23 Hello again fellow fun seekers! My apologies for not checking in lately, I’ve been busy on many boxer adventures. Let’s see, where to start…..I’ve shown my foster mom some more of my quirky personality since I last wrote. I really like to shred, she thinks maybe my name should have been “Shredder”. I shredded my dog bed and cover in the car. I’ve attached a pic of that. If you look closely at the pic, you’ll see me under the stuffing in the lower left corner. Yes, that’s me, I did that! I thought I did really good work. My foster mom still finds pieces of the stuffing floating around once in a while. She laughs and throws it away - I worked hard on that! I also shred paper plates and stuffed animals. She told me she wished she had known about the stuffed animal shredding project. She’d have bought bunches of them at rummage sales over the summer for me to unstuff. I’ve got a little bit of a routine going. I like to go outside in the morning and explore all the new smells. Then I like to eat after that, not before, then I have a big drink and then I play really really hard for a little while. I’m very noisy and committed to my efforts. When I’m done with that I like to take a nap on the couch. I like to sleep on my foster mom’s keyboard and then she moves my head to type. We do that a few times, I put my head on the keyboard, she moves it, I do it again…..after a while I do let her win and settle in beside her and let her type without my help. However, then I like to sit as close as possible. If we can be touching, that’s the best! I have a pillow and a blanket. I’m saving the pillow, it doesn’t need to be shredded. I also showed her I know how to shake. She thought that was cute, it didn’t seem like a big deal to me, but she was impressed. I still like to ride in cars and will go on any car trips I can. I ride nicely she says. Again, seems like common sense. Get in, sit down, watch the road, smell things out the window and go places. Sometimes I nap on the way and sometimes I’m too busy driving from the back seat to sleep. I have an outdoor dog house and kennel too. I go in the kennel very well and sit in there and take naps in my own house in there. I love to look around and I’m very content. I bark when my foster mom comes home, just to remind her I’m in the kennel. I’ve gotten used to other dogs and really want to play. I get pretty excited to meet dogs. I’ve also met a cat. I’m pretty sure she’s edible. I haven’t caught her yet to find out, but I really really want to. My foster mom says we are supposed to be friends, I’m a bit skeptical. I’ve never been friends with something I eat. We’ll see…….I’m told it’s bad manners to chase the cat, but I think it’s hide and seek. I never get the chance to hide and have the cat find me though. She always hides and I always have to seek. She doesn’t take turns well. I bet she tastes like chicken! Oh yeah, in case you’re wondering about the dog bed. I have a new one. My foster mom moves it to vacuum and make it easier to get to the recliner. No worries, I move it back. I know where I want it, I think she needs better manners. She doesn’t put it in the car though. Remember the picture of the shredding, yeah, she does too! I still really like kids. I spend time with teenagers and I really like them. I also get milk bones for treats from them. Those are delicious. My foster mom says I take them so gently she really likes that. That’s “good manners”. Manners, manners, manners. I hear about manners all the time. I’m getting good at walking on a leash too. At first I forget to “walk nice” and I pull because I’m so excited, but it only takes a few feet and I remember my good manners and walk beside my foster mom and don’t pull. She says she doesn’t want to run, so we walk. If she ever changes her mind, I will be happy to run with her! My new people friends keep throwing a ball and telling me to go get it. I don’t understand that at all. Why get the ball? That’s a silly idea, I have better things to do. They point out squirrels and chipmunks to me and I’ve seen deer. Again, I’m not terribly impressed. If they would point out the cat, I would be happy to pay attention. Ok, gotta go. I’m going outside and need to see what’s changed since I was out there earlier. PUPDATE 9.8.23 Hello fellow fun seekers, my name is Cleo! My foster mom says I'm learning more and more about me all the time. Right now I'm undecided if I like other dogs and cats. My first interactions were a bit tense but I might loosen up with more time. I've also met 3 teenage kids and they're great! Sometimes they all pet me at the same time and I make snorting noises cuz I'm so happy. When I'm happy or excited my tail wags and wags and I get all squirmy. When I wake up in the morning I'm the most active. I eat and have a drink then go outside. Outside is my favorite place - I smell all the new smells and then I play really really hard for a little while. Then I take naps off and on all day. At night I sleep with my foster mom and she says it's adorable (which must be a good word) how I snore. I only get on the furniture when I'm invited, otherwise I sleep on the floor. I also know my crate and my pillow and will let myself in my crate sometimes to rest. I am a really big snuggle bug! I ride really well in the car and I help put on my leash. I've already made great improvements walking on the leash. My foster mom said it's not polite to pull and I'm trying hard to remember that. I'll keep you updated on my adventures and everything my foster mom learns. NEW TO RESCUE 9.3.23 I was an unclaimed stray and have been at the shelter for six months. I sit quietly watching all the dogs coming in and out by my kennel. I get along with other dogs. I'm curious about the cats. I need leash training as I'm quite strong and will pull you over. I'm very sweet and like pets!
