Meet BerthaSay hello to Bertha! Bertha is a beautiful Boxer mix who is approximately 1.5 to 2 years old and currently weighs 40 pounds. She was adopted as a puppy from the Weslaco shelter in south Texas in the border of Mexico. Her family recently decided they no longer wanted Bertha and unfortunately returned her to the shelter. We are very happy we were able to rescue her and help her find a forever home! Bertha is a very happy and playful gal! she gets along well with the other dogs in her playgroup here at the rescue. They have a great time playing and exploring together. She does still have some puppy energy, so would do best in an active home with older kiddos where she can go on lots of walks, runs and/or hikes. she is a very smart girl who learns quickly and would really do well with some basic obedience training to help learn her best dog manners. She is crate trained for her meals and for sleeping. Bertha is a wonderful dog who would be a loyal and loving companion to a loving family! Bertha is located at our rescue in Hondo, Texas and is available for transport to Clearwater, Florida on December 23, 2023. She is spayed, up to date on all shots, microchipped and her adoption fee is $400. The fee includes the transport cost. ***Please note: If approved to adopt, you MUST be available to pick up Bertha at our adoption event in Clearwater the morning of 12/23. *Bertha tested positive for Chagas disease and has started her treatment. This is completely curable after treatment and dogs can go on to live long and happy lives. Our rescue is one of the first to do Chagas testing for all of the dogs in our care and is having measurable success in the treatment protocol. We are also focused on continued education and awareness of Chagas to help even more dogs.
