Adopt Autumn a Black Basset Hound / Mixed dog in Charlottesville, VA (37737459)

Location:
Charlottesville, VA
Description:

The dog days of summer may be upon us, but I'm ready for Autumn!!! Hello!!! I am Autumn!!! I am a young Basset pup, only about a year old. I came to BROOD 5 months ago because my owners said I was eating but not gaining any weight. Since I've been with BROOD, I'm gaining weight just fine, in fact, I've doubled in size! I will always be on the small side since I just wasn't getting the food I needed to grow up big but great things come in small packages!Let's go down my list of do's and don'ts for my forever home. I am non-stop active, constantly on the go, and only rest when I am sleeping. So, if you already have another dog in the home, they MUST be as active as me. I'd do best in a home with another dog, but it must be the right dog. A canine companion that will play as hard as I do but is also willing to show me the ropes and help me to socialize with other dogs and people. I can't go to a home with cats as I chase them all the time trying to play and give them no rest. I would love a home with a fenced yard to be able to run and play the day away. Otherwise, you will need to walk me several times per day. My current foster home has a fenced yard and I am outside a lot playing. But they still need to take me on numerous walks per day, some short and some long, because I just need to be on the go!I love kids, I really do. But as I am so speedy and active, children in the home need to be over 12 as I could accidentally knock them down while playing. I have issues with resource guarding when it comes to other dogs. To explain a little, I haven't learned to trust yet that there will always be enough food, snacks, treats or bones for me. I can become very agitated when there are other dogs in my space and there are goodies to be had. I will need to be fed separately and have my humans watch me very closely with meals and munchies until I learn I can eat my fill. I don't have issues with separation anxiety, but I need a family that is going to be home a lot to be able to put in the time to train and teach me. It's been a difficult search for my perfect match. After all that, why should you adopt me? Well, I am house-trained and crate trained. And I am super smart and a quick learner. One of my foster homes had a doorbell to ring to let them know I needed to go out. I learned how to ring the bell in no time flat! I am working now with my foster family and the training clicker and, in just a few minutes, I learned how to throw a ball in the air! I am a sweet, sweet soul and love everyone as soon as I meet them. I went to a sporting event with my family recently and met everyone there!! Who could resist saying hi to me?? I had a great time playing with the other dogs when the game got boring. I am so funny and will keep you laughing. I'm great about bath time, nail trims and ear cleaning, no fussing from me. I recently learned what a sprinkler is and had so much fun running in and out of it's path! I love going on hikes with my foster family, they say I am one brave little girl with a real sense of adventure!!! When I do finally take a break, I love to cuddle and will be your constant companion. I have so much love to give, I just need the right opportunity to really shine!!!So please look past my adorable face and beautiful eyes and see that I am a pup in need of some extra tender loving care and direction to grow into a faithful friend. I have so much to offer to the right family! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 07/26/2023
