Adopt Atticus a Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed Breed (Medium) dog in Sidney

Location:
Sidney, NE
Description:

Atticus Located in Dalton NE area7-8ish years oldXL American Bully FusionDog friendly (does best around non dominant males but can coexist ok)Cat friendliness unknown No young loud wild kids, he deserves a calm home to retire inHouse trainedCrate trained and he does know commands but we are refreshing him on the commandsLoves to cuddleWalks well on a leash ‍Needs a CALM and TRANQUIL home environmentWould do best with older calm dogs, NO loud players or a great deal of unnecessary barking. Fully vetted70lbs approxThis delicious lug is Atticus and he has had such an amazing life journey. He has every reason to hate humanity, due to his sweet nature he was used as a bait dog and then dumped. Next he found himself in a shelter about to be killed. He was saved by a “rescue” who then adopted him out only for him to be turned returned to this “rescue” when his adopters became homeless. Eventually it came to light this “rescue” was just a bunch of crates in a random field (which the “rescue” didn’t have permission to use), in California. All the dogs were seized and taken to Riverside shelter in CA. There were so many dogs a seperate shelter facility, that had been previously closed, had to be opened again just to house these animals. This sweet senior boy captured my heart reminding me so much of Roman my previous bait dog, (RIP my most perfect bubba). Thank goodness a plan came together and we were able to save this darling chap! He traveled to a friend who fostered him. for a bit while we learned about him. Atticus lived with several adult dogs both male and female and while he had some tifs with one of the males overall he had no major issues. During this time we learned more about the sweet, funny and insanely charismatic personality he has. He showed us his gentle demeanor, his love of a comfy spot in front of a fireplace, or on the couch. We all fell even more in love with this boy. Eventually he made his way to my house where the hope was that he would retire. After a lot of thought, time working with him and my sincere and deep love for this lug the decision has been made to search for a retirement home for Atticus that has less noise and chaos. Atticus is dog selective, who can blame him, however he really seems to have the most issues with dominant adult males. This is very manageable, however what’s become clear is he needs a home with other adult or senior dogs, dogs that lazy and quiet. My home has a gaggle of Bostons and other younger monsters that play loudly. This VERY MUCH upsets this sweet boy. It makes him very anxious and nervous and that’s not ok, that’s not the life that ANYONE deserves to live, but especially not a magnificent boy like this that’s already overcome so much! I have worked with him and really tried to help him to overcome this but it’s just not happening. Barking and playing dogs sound too much like fighting dogs for Atticus to relax and be comfortable, he is contantly worried that someone is being hurt and wants to interfere. This is where the decision to look for a retirement home that is a better fit comes in. Atticus is house trained although he will need a refresher in a proper home environment as he is crated and rotated now and seems to have more accidents due to this which is understandable. His anxiety doesn’t really allow him to relax so that doesn’t help the potty training either. He does know commands and we are starting to work on these again so hopefully by the time we find his ppl he will be good to go, if we are lucky enough to find his ppl quickly then they will need to understand that they will need to work on commands woth him. He loves the outdoors but is so scared that he will be left that he needs to see you at all times, we do walks and he walks well on a leash. He loves his food and can be a touch protective due to his sincere love of food hahha, so he eats in his crate. While we understand that he may not be a perfect fit for everyone, we know he is a perfect fit for a very lucky someone. We absolutely ADORE this lug and are beyond committed to finding him the best FURever. If he’s captured your heart like he has ours and you feel you may be a good fit for him PLEASE reach out!!
