Meet Penny! Penny and her buddy, Lucy, were abandoned on a dirt road in a very rural area of SC. They were seen running for a few weeks until a local animal lover started putting food and water out for them and was able to gain their trust and get them safely into her custody. Lucy has already been adopted, but Penny tested positive for heartworm and needed to be treated before she could go home. She has completed her treatment and is ready to start her new life. Penny is being fostered in a home with a mom, dad, teen daughter, 4 dogs, and 2 cats. It’s an active home, and Penny has acclimated well to being part of a pack. She really enjoys the companionship of the other pups and plays a good part of the day. She loves romping in the yard and wrestling with the other dogs and then coming in for a nice, long nap with the kitties. She’s more confident than submissive and really changes her play style to adapt to the pup she’s playing with. Her foster mom describes Penny as a snuggler and considers her a natural part of her pack. She is housetrained but has an aversion to the crate. She does fine with a baby gate but is a climber and needs a taller one with bars vs. lattice. When her foster parents leave her home alone, she stays out or is contained with a baby gate with 1 or 2 of her dog buddies. Penny is not a fan of being left alone, but if she has a friend, she’s fine. Penny has good leash manners and is the type of dog you can take with you anywhere. Her foster mom has taken her on multiple outings to a local pub, popular trails, and the farmer’s market, and received so many compliments on how well-behaved she is. Penny lets people approach and pet her, remains calm with all the noise and activity of passing cars, and is not reactive to walkers with dogs. Penny is very affectionate and loves to be near her people and pack. She warmed up more quickly to the women in the home but will jump up in her foster dad’s lap sometimes to snuggle. We are looking for a family who has a playful pup or two in the home and a flexible work schedule. She’s an active girl who needs an active family, and a backyard with a 5-6’ privacy fence would be ideal. Apply today!
