Looks like we are pulling Richard and Onslow from the Austin Animal Center! Just waiting on a time. Our wonderful vet partner, Daylily Animal Hospital is on stand-by to receive them. Richard and Onslow are very obese beagles, and the shelter put them on a "Whale Watch List" due to their size. They are over 60 pounds and probably need to lose around 30 pounds. We certainly have our work cut out for us! These guys are estimated to be 8 years old. The Austin Police Department found them in their owner's duplex during a well check, where the owner was found deceased. He had no next of kin, so the police delivered them to the shelter on April 30th. They may be morbidly overweight, but they have terrific personalities and are very sweet! For them to be that overweight, there was a level of neglect occurring (even though it may not have been intentional) before the owner passed away. We are going to see what suggestions our vet has for weight loss. Frozen green beans, pumpkin, a significantly reduced amount of kibble, and LOTS of exercise come to mind. We will call around and see if any local places can give us a reduced rate on water treadmill therapy. Please follow their weight loss journey, which we will share on social media.
