Up for adoption in Texas: Brownie. He is a gorgeous two-year-old chocolate boy who weighs about 50 pounds. Brownie has the saddest story: He was left in a backyard after his family moved! We aren't sure how someone could possibly leave him behind, but he got picked up by animal control and brought to a shelter. He was wearing his cute purple cape! Even worse the shelter was full and euthanizes dogs for space. Luckily Lucky Lab saved Brownie in the nick of time! He's been in a wonderful foster home and blossoming with some training. In his foster home, he's been a loving energetic pup who loves playing with people and other dogs. Brownie loves to play fetch with his toys and will usually bring them back, sometimes teasing you by getting close and then hopping playfully away before giving up his toy. Brownie still has a lot of puppy in him and has been working on his manners. He is smart and treat driven which makes him easily trainable. He has pretty much mastered not jumping and mouthing people. He usually only uses his mouth if he wants you to pet him but is easily distracted by a treat or a toy. He will get beside you on the couch and twist himself up against you to be close and get petted, sometimes doing a full somersault or sliding off the couch. Brownie is working on walking on a leash but still needs some reminding not to pull. He showed a bit of resource guarding/ food protection, but he now waits while you put down his dish and lets you feed him by hand. Brownie knows to sit and lay down. He is good about sitting and waiting at the door for you to open it. He is almost 100% housebroken, sleeps quietly in his crate for eight hours, and knows how to kennel on request. Brownie is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Since Brownie has some puppy-like mannerisms he's working through Lucky Lab is looking for an experienced adopter for Brownie and a home with adults only and or older teens. We'd also recommend a meet and greet if an adopter has another dog. (Just want to make sure everyone is happy.) Lucky Lab requires adopters to enroll in positive reinforcement training with their new pooch, and we think that's a wonderful path for Brownie to take. He will blossom and flourish even more. He was a bit of a handful when he first came to the rescue. His wonderful foster has been working with a trainer and helped teach him the ropes and manners.
