I am being fostered in New England! Hi, I’m Sammy! I’m feeling kind of sad right now, because it seems to me that we’ll never find my forever home, even though my foster mom tells me that my home is out there somewhere. I think I don’t get many applications because I had some scary stuff happen to me in the past. Let me explain, and maybe you will want to give me the forever home I deserve. I have lots of scars from being attacked by other dogs before I got rescued. So, while I still basically like other dogs, I sometimes misunderstand play for an attack and immediately defend myself because of my past. Please don’t think this means that I want to attack other dogs. I only react if there’s strong physical contact by the other dog. For this reason, I do need to be the only dog in your home, but I’m perfectly happy to be out and about around other dogs. To keep everyone safe, we just shouldn’t make physical contact.My foster mom likes to tell the story of the time she took me for a walk and a little dog came running up to us barking like crazy and stopped about 18” away from me still barking. As there hadn’t been any direct contact, I didn’t feel under attack, and just stood there trying to figure out what the heck was with this dog. I also was recently at an adoption event with loads of other dogs, and I was perfectly happy to share the space with them.Other than that, I’m perfection! I’m completely house trained and not destructive. I know my basic commands. I will go into a crate if I have to, but am much happier in a gated room. If you have guests over, I prefer to relax in that gated room instead of socializing. Too many strangers at once stress me out! However, when it's just me and my fam, I do love hanging out on the couch with everyone. I’m not a high energy dog and am perfectly happy to be a couch potato. I do enjoy going for walks and, if you have a fenced yard, doing occasional zoomies. If you think it’s possible you and I are a match, apply for me! An application doesn’t mean you have to adopt me, but will give you the chance to talk to people that know all about me and can answer any questions you may have.
