Great Pyrenees Dog for Adoption in Garland, Texas, 75043 USNickname: Taffy Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Meet Taffy! She is named after candy, because she is the sweetest Pyrenees! She has a big heart, beautiful brown eyes, and a big personality. She loves everyone and is happy and playful 100% of the time! Born around March 2023, she is a petite, pocket-pyr at 57 pounds; as she reaches full maturity, she may reach around 65 pounds. Taffy was brought to the shelter as a 7-month-old pup with a leg injury, having apparently been hit by a car. We brought her into our program and had her evaluated by an orthopedic veterinarian who found that Taffy had a femur fracture that did not require surgery - just crate rest for two months and follow-up appointments to make sure she healed properly. She is now healed, but has a limp that may take a year to resolve as the healing new bone becomes smooth. She has no restrictions. Taffy does not let her rough start show her down at all. She loves to chase her ball, play with toys, and chew on bones. She also loves to play with her two furry siblings. She gets along well with other dogs of all sizes. She loves to eat and will also consume the other dogs’ food if given the opportunity. Having her use a slow feeder in a separate room is helpful. Taffy came to us already potty trained and will go on command. Since she was confined for so long with her healing fracture, she is not a fan of the crate or being separated from her furry siblings when her humans are away from the home. She is very smart and a quick learner. She knows basic commands and will come when called - especially if you have a treat. She loves to ride in the car and will jump right in if the car door is open. Taffy is learning to walk on a leash and loves to greet every person and dog she meets along the way. She has never tried to jump on the fence or dig her way out. It is possible a four-foot fence will be fine. She is still a young dog and likes to chew. She will chew on any type of bone or toy and thinks all of them are hers. She occasionally will chew on something that belongs to her humans, but a gentle verbal correction and some Bitter Apple spray fixes the problem. She loves to be brushed and doesn't mind her nails being trimmed. She would do fine with any age children and would be a great companion for any aged person. She would be fine in an apartment. She rarely barks indoors and likes to bark outside at squirrels. Her perfect home would include another big dog to play with and unlimited bones to chew. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
