Milkdud is a beautiful 2 year old Fawn Great Dane who is fostered in Osseo, MN. She is a petite gal, weighing in at 95. Milkdud is a sweet and quirky, but very anxious girl who is fearful of new situations and people. Once she has warmed up to you she is a typical Velcro Great Dane. She loves going for waks, playing with squeaky toys and will take her most favorite to bed with her each night. She is super smart and eager to learn! She knows some basic commands like sit, stay, leave it, down and has excellent recall. She would love to build on her current skill set with her new family along with further training on her leash skills and increasing her self-confidence and successful socialization. Milkdud is treat motivated but won't always take treats in new situations. She currently does well with free roam and is not destructive when left alone. Her foster mom is also working on crate training. Once established and comfortable in a new home, she can be left alone 8-10 hours during the day with no problems however she would need to be let out for a potty break perhaps after 6 hours.She was transferred to a new foster home in July. Originally she was in a foster home with other Great Danes and initally did well with them but she began having conflicts with another female Dane. She now is in a new foster home where she is the only dog with 2 cats and does very well with her kitty friends. While not living with other dogs she still enjoys socializing with them. She may benefit having a large dog companion in an adoptive home but would also do well as an only dog. She may not do well lliving with multiple dogs. It was reported she lived with small dogs in her original home but she has been observed to be very reactive to small dogs on the other side of the fence so we do not recommend an adoptive home with small dogs. She requires an adoptive home with a physically fenced yard and regular leashed walks to continue her training. A home without a fence may be considered if providing on leash home outdoor time and places she could be taken to run safely off leash.Milkdud can be standoff-ish with new people at first and can be incredibly fearful and insecure. She seems to prefer women over men. She requires slow/proper introductions to strangers, allowing her to build confidence and trust in her new friends. If there are any kids in the forever home we ask that they be at least 10 years of age or older, and have previous big dog experience. She was recently evaluated by a professional trainer who instructed behavioral training exerises to build Milkdud's self-confidence. She also started a presciption medication to better manage her anxiety along with the behavior modification training.
