Adopt Bali a White - with Black Australian Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed

Location:
Ramona, CA
Description:

Meet Bali! 8-year-old Bali arrived to the Bonita Shelter as a stray back in January. She was paralyzed in fear and had to be carried everywhere because she refused to walk. We noticed the same behavior when she became a Frosted Face in February, and while she adjusted a bit to our routine here at FFF, she still struggled with new experiences. Two months ago, Bali went to live in a foster home so we could see how just might adjust to living in a home. Spoiler alert, she’s doing great! Her foster family shares: “Bali is very nervous, and takes some time to adjust to new environments, but overall is a great dog! Bali eats her meals in a separate room from our other animals because we feed everyone separately at our house. She is a great eater, and loves any kibble we give her. She is not picky and finishes every meal! Bali had a few accidents when she first arrived to our house and was still learning the routine, but quickly followed the lead of our other dogs and has not had any accidents since! She sleeps through the night without needing to go for a midnight potty break and will potty both in our fenced backyard and out on leashed walks. Bali is a very mellow dog. She is fine just chilling on the couch or sunbathing in the yard. When she first came to Frosted Faces, it appeared she didn’t know how to walk on a leash. She is still a bit nervous on walks, but she walks well following our 2-year-old dog's lead. She has gone on hikes up to 3 miles and keeps up just fine! She recently started playing with toys too! Bali lives with a large 2 year old dog that has become her emotional support buddy, a small 13 year old dog, and two cats. She love love loves our 2 year old dog and follows everything he does. Where he goes, Bali goes. They share beds, walk side by side, lick each others faces, and chew on the same toy together. Bali would probably love having another confident dog in her forever home. Bali is also great with the cats and has never chased or shown any interest in them. She is definitely more comfortable with dogs than with people, but one month in, she is starting to come around. We are very gentle with her and have let her approach us on her own time and it is so so fun to see her start to warm up to us. She even met a new human friend on a hike recently and warmed up to her and her treat pouch very quickly. I was so proud of her being so brave! Even though she is scared sometimes, she is super sweet and never snaps or tries to bite like scared dogs sometimes do. Bali is the type of dog that will take extra time to settle in to her new home. Who knows how long she was a stray or how long she had to fend for herself. But, having her around is so rewarding because every tail wag is earned. She won’t run right up to you and love you on day one, but watching her learn how to dog and become more comfortable in a home is very special. She is a pretty great dog in all other regards, a nice size around 45 lbs, a fun breed mix, potty trained, good with other pets, no major health issues. Bali is a catch! And the patient family that allows her the time and space to be confident with them will be so lucky to have her.” Bali will need a very special and patient family. She’s not going to roll right in like she owns the place and take up residence on your couch on day one. But, the extra time and space you give her will be so so worth it!"
