We have absolutely no idea where Charlie (2yrs old, Black Labrador Retriever Mix) originated but his story prior to arriving to the shelter is heart-breaking. An eye-witness states, she was walking her dogs and watched Charlie get hit by a car, the driver never stopped. Charlie was lying in the street with a big chain around his neck. Onlookers said he didn't look like one of the familiar dogs in the neighborhood. They quickly and carefully scooped up Charlie and drove him to the nearest emergency animal hospital where he stayed. The shelter picked him up once he was Ok to be released. Charlie is not trustworthy of anyone, at least not right away. Can you blame him? Charlie needs an adult home, but more so, he needs an environment where he can decompress, fully. He is hesitant to come to the front of his kennel, he is nervous to walk down the kennel. He is avoidant of eye contact with the handler, and he absolutely will not allow anyone to touch him. He growls when anyone approaches him with or without treats and food. He will not approach a new person; he is hoping that anyone that sees him will just keep walking. If Charlie could have any superpower right now, it would be Invisible. And that is truly the saddest thing! This is the part of the story where you arrive as Charlie's hero. It's a tall order, this isn't going to be easy, and this will be one of the longest journeys you will take. But, we know it will be Worth It!! Charlie is Worth it! Charlie's home will be an experienced adult-only home. You will understand Charlie is not going to come around in a week it will take longer, but you are going to allow him whatever he needs, structure and patience. He would do best in a low-traffic home, where he can learn to bond to his people; together you can write the best chapter yet.
