Information: Boots was returned to the shelter due to not getting along with the dogs in his previous home. Boots may do best in a home that doesn't have any dogs. He will need time to adjust to other cats in the home but it is currently unknown at this time how he will do around other cats. Boots has a heart murmur, which is rated as a 3-4 out of 6. Grade 1 is the mildest and Grade 6 the most severe. The grading system is based largely on how loud the murmur is. A heart murmur is an abnormal sound heard when listening to a heartbeat with a stethoscope. Normally, two distinct sounds are heard when listening to the heart of a normal dog or cat. These are often described as lub and dub. Murmurs most commonly occur between the lub and the dub and have a shooshing or whooshing quality. Boots has also been diagnosed with feline FIV. What is FIV? FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus just as HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It typically causes a weakening of the cat's immune system. While similar to HIV, FIV has a long asymptomatic period and our job is to prolong this period. FIV is not transmissible to people! It unfortunately has no treatment; however, cats can live long happy and healthy lives with this disease. The shelter provides a 5-day health guarantee for adopted animals. This includes health conditions not present or known about by the shelter at the of adoption, which adopter becomes aware of within 5 days. Injuries or accidents that occur at the adopter's home are not covered. The shelter is not responsible for incurred costs from local veterinarians due to non-compliance. ALL adoptions are final!
