#### Sparky is a very handsome 4 year old Bichon Frise who weighs 12 pounds. He is a shy observant little guy who is progressing at our shelter after coming in very scared. He is an energizer bunny and likes to be outside exploring though when nervous he paces. He enjoys playtime with all the other small dogs. He hasn't been tested with big dogs but if you have a bigger dog, they will meet at the meet and greet to be sure they are a good match. He prefers smaller playgroups because fewer people are there then. He is making progress with people though new people make him more nervous. He is tricky to catch and often turns into a grasshopper, jumping over arms, when someone is trying to bring him inside. Our behavior team will help you learn strategies for safely catching him if he needs to be picked up. He needs an adult only home and a 4 foot high fence for him and his sibling to play in. He is not a leash walker yet and needs more time to settle in before that should be attempted. His sibling can help him learn the leash. He is a flight risk and he likes to explore. His kennel door was left unlatched, an exceedingly rare occurrence, and the morning staff found him greeting every dog at the front of their kennel runs. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
