Looking for a real nice guy? Someone who loves ALL people and ALL dogs? Rex is your guy! Wanna avoid puppy-ages 1 to 2 where young dogs chew up everything, aren't house trained, and cost a bunch of money to get spayed/neutered? Rex is your two-and-a-half-year-old guy! Rex has been around at least 25 unfamiliar people since his fosters got him, including 4 kids between the ages of 4 and 10. He has been off leash with 4 unfamiliar dogs and done fine. His fosters have two cats. Rex is very curious, as he hasn't seen cats before, so he isn't exactly chill around them; he follows them and gets swiped at a few times! However, Rex hasn't done anything that would hurt them. *Pros:-Will pass a boarding temperament test easily because he's very dog-friendly-Housetrained-Good with cats-Kind temperament with all people, including all genders and ages. He wants all the pets!-Does not bolt when off-leash/unfenced; Stays near people.-Strong recall (comes when called)-Attention is his strongest motivator-Doesn't mark like some male dogs-Not slobbery. No drool marks on the floor!-Takes a treat very softly. -Quick learner that responds to "no." -Must've been allowed on furniture previously but follows our rules of not allowed furniture.-Was a counter-surfer initially, but this is also much better. He loves attention, and he'll do anything to get a "good boy", including keeping all four feet on the floor.-Knows "sit" and "down." -Quickly learning to "leave it" versus run to the fence when a dog passes (there is a walking path behind his foster home)-Sleeps in an extra-large kennel in the foster garage from 9pm-7am. Very few to no barks, which has greatly improved. Learning to go to the kennel on demand as well. -Quickly learning that he gets pets and attention when he keeps all four feet on the floor and doesn't jump. He really does love people and so he gets very excited and sometimes jumps. But he has caught on to "no jumping=more attention" very quickly. -Knows fetch and drop with a tennis ball. He likes to fetch but isn't obsessed like some dogs. *Still needs to work on:-Leash walking. Rex pulls and whines a bit when he sees other dogs but does not lunge or bark at other dogs when on the leash. He does not whine/pull when passing people. This has greatly improved in the one week since at his fosters who take him on a 2+ mile walk every day. There is no concern that he would hurt another dog if he was allowed to get close and sniff them, he is just like a spoiled toddler learning that he can't say "hi" to every dog on his walk! He almost pouts about it! -Resource guarding with toys/bone the resident dog. Fosters haven't seen any resource guarding with food to them or their dog though, nor does he resource guard with humans at all or while taking treats from humans, even if the resident dog is taking them as well.If you have any questions or would like to adopt (BE) Rex (fka Rusty), please reach out to the adoption group directly.
