This is Majel! She's a lovely standard American Eskimo dog (aka spitz), weighing about 30 pounds. She's only about 3 years old, which is way too young to have been forced to have as many puppies as she has. She and her most recent puppies were brought to the local shelter in horrific condition--malnourished, full of parasites, filthy, and just generally pitiful. Despite her owner's cruel neglect, her beautiful spirit showed through with a wagging tail and a look of hope for anyone who spoke to her. Her suffering over now, as she has been spayed and is almost fully recovered from her terrible ordeal. (Her hair is coming back, but it's still thinner than it will be in a few more weeks. Frequent brushing will be necessary.) Now that she's feeling well and her puppies are weaned, she is happy, energetic, eager for attention and affection, and ready for the safe and loving home that she has deserved all along. She is crate trained and has been 100% perfect in her kennel/crate at night. After having been hungry for so long, she is very food motivated, so while she did not come to us with much training, she'll be an eager learner if a treat is involved! (Care will need to be taken not to let her overeat!) We have not been able to test her with cats or kids, but we expect her to do well. She can be a little too eager to get your attention at times but responds well to gentle correction. Her ideal home would be with patient individuals or a family who would not have to leave her alone for too long, a friendly canine companion for company when you're gone, and a physically fenced yard for play and safety. (She's okay on a leash but not yet good at long strolls to go potty. She just wants lots of hugs, so it's a few steps forward and then back for some lovin'!) The adoption fee includes vet exam, first set of vaccines, microchipping, Feline Leukemia test for cats, Heartworm test for dogs. Also, includes rabies vaccine and spay/neuter at appropriate age. A completed and approved adoption application is required before meetings are arranged. Prospective adopters with approved applications will be contacted by the foster homes to arrange meetings.
